Coca Cola has retired its diet drink ‘Tab’. The decision was made to shift the company’s focus to its more profitable products in the midst of the pandemic.

Launched in 1963, Tab came in a variety of flavors like root beer, ginger ale, and fruits. It was a popular drink throughout the 1960s and ‘70s, especially among women.

According to reports, Coca-Cola’s revenue has gone down 33%, its biggest decline in the last 30 years. To save costs, Coca-Cola announced in June that it would pause all social media advertising campaigns for 30 days. Further, it decided to stop sales of several products.

Apart from Tab, other products marketed by Coca-Cola that will no longer be available include Coca-Cola Life, Diet Coke Feisty Cherry, Odwalla (all in the US), Vegitabeta (in Japan), and Zico Coconut Water (in Brazil). Instead, Coca-Cola will promote more successful products like AHA sparkling water, Minute Maid, and Topo Chico Hard Seltzer.

The announcement about Tab made people sentimental across social media platforms. Although Tab helped Coca-Cola create the idea of a diet drink, it was eventually dominated by Diet Cola. The success of the latter finally led to Tab’s exit.
