Hi. I’m Matt, navigator of “5min. Biz English” Podcast.   On this blog, I share my reflections on the latest world topics and life.

But first, a little about me:

My background is Banking and Financial Markets for over two decades.  Having lived on three countries and traveled the globe, I am truly a citizen of the world.  While I was with U. S. based news firm, we had world-wide sales conference in Shanghai.  At that time, I learned a lot about how poor our communication skills are.  Since then I’ve been thinking the best way to improve and maintain English language skills without going abroad.

Coincidentally, I read an article about an old man who spent decades in the foreign country however he never forgot his mother language.  What did he do?   He kept it by reading newspaper every day.  This article gave me a hint and I started developing an idea and finally launched e-learning program “Business English Pro”.

Since BEPro is online based learning program, many of those who take the course feel loneliness and hard to keep self-motivation.  We conducted a lot of research as well as learning many method such as the gamification.  I also taught at the graduate school JAIST in Kanazawa for three years and at exactly the same time I was a graduate student of the  Digital Hollywood and learned about ICT.   Therefore we could apply many ideas to our learning program.

On May 2013, I started the Podcast program.  The main reason why I started is nothing but tried to encourage and motivate struggling learners.

For your despair I shall weep

For my joy you shall dance

Leaving home for Tokyo at 18, then to the U.S. in my mid-20s were huge adventures for me. Adventurers do what they do not to face death, but to live life.

Whenever I face an important decision, I go by a single rule--to choose the hardest path. I’m not always without regret, but I’ve always come through. I’ll continue to challenge myself, purely because that’s what I believe life is about.

You play the starring role in your life. You’re also your screenwriter, stage director, and acting coach. Everything you encounter you should pocket as your material. As Eiji Yoshikawa said, “Everyone is my teacher, all, but me.”

These days, we tend to associate with one another at a distance. Can you weep for your friend’s sorrow? Will your friend embrace your joy as his or her own? The depth and quality of life is determined by the existence of loved ones we share our lives with.

Perpetual learning is just that. Once we take it in, we need to give back. And in order to give, we need to grow. It’s in the cycle of giving and learning that we maintain growth.

Japan is a tribal society. Our media floods us with negative criticism, coloring our view of ourselves. A non-Japanese friend of mine once asked me why the Japanese are so self-deprecating. If we all chose to live positively, I’m convinced that Japan can start on a new path.
